Released in 1989 for DOS, Ajax tried to capture the fun of its arcade version but didn't really hit the mark. The game, which was meant to be a fast and exciting shooter, ended up with graphics and sound that just couldn't match up to the arcade game's quality. This made the whole thing feel a bit dull. The visuals weren't as sharp or colorful, and the sound effects were pretty basic, lacking the punch that would have made the game more exciting.
The controls were another big problem. They were stiff and didn't respond well, which made playing the game more of a hassle than fun. Fighting against enemies felt clunky, and the bad guys themselves weren't very smart or challenging, making the game feel repetitive and not very thrilling.
On top of that, Ajax didn't bring anything new to the table. The levels were pretty much the same throughout the game, without any cool twists or changes to keep things interesting. This lack of new ideas, along with the so-so graphics and sound, made the game boring and forgettable.
In the end, Ajax just didn't manage to bring the excitement of arcade shooting games to the DOS platform. It missed out on the key things that make these games fun, like good graphics, sound, and smooth gameplay. So, it ended up being a game that people didn't really remember or talk about much after its release.
