Eye of the Beholder is a classic squared dungeon which gradually descends into a dark labyrinth beneath the city of Waterdeep to finally meet in a fight with the biggest of all evil. This labyrinth consists of 12 levels full of monsters and traps. You control a gang of four adventurers that you can personally create under the rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. You start in the channels and every three levels take place in a different environment with other monsters (but of course every time it comes to Kammen cell) until you get to the last level which is the twelfth place in an underground palace. You will of course also have a number of weapons you can use against Kobold, giant leeches, skeletons and zombies, or Flindt and Kuo-Toa, through countless others bizarre creatures.

Unfortunetally, this game is no longer abandonware.

Game review

The lords of Waterdeep gathered to send a message. Somewhere under the city, prehistoric evil has settled and heroes are being sought to stand up to it. These four heroes soon appeared before the king. However, as soon as they entered the canals below the city, something sinister surprised them. Suddenly the steel gate closed behind them and the entrance collapsed. Now they were left alone with no way back. However, they were not completely alone. At that time, they did not yet know that someone was watching them ...
Eye of the Beholder in translation means the eye of the observer is a classic square dungeon in which you gradually descend into a dark labyrinth under the city of Waterdeep to finally meet in a duel with the perpetrator of all evil. This labyrinth reads 12 levels full of monsters and traps. You control a group of four adventurers, which you can create yourself according to the rules of Advanced Dungeons & Dragons. You start in the canals and every three levels take place in a different environment with different monsters (but each of course it is a stone dungeon) until you get to the last twelfth level, which takes place in a kind of underground palace. Of course, you will also find a number of weapons that you can use against kobolds, giant leeches, skeletons and zombies, or Flinds and Kuo-Toa (dwarfs and frogs) through countless others to killers in the form of Mind Flayers or other bizarre creatures.

In terms of graphics and sound, EOB is flawless. The levels are nicely colored, and the sounds in the dark dungeons bring you goosebumps when you hear the ominous knocking of once-human bones somewhere in the catacombs. Everything is drawn in detail and ... what I will tell you about things you can try on your own.

For every RPG enthusiast, the Eye of Beholder is a delicacy. For RPG collectors an unforgettable game that must not be missed. For those who don't like RPGs, it's just another boring walk through endless corridors and a mouse click.

Pros / cons
+ RPG in its purest form
  - sometimes a bit chaotically processed puzzles
