Loom unfolds in a beautifully crafted fantasy world, rich in lore and filled with vivid characters. The story revolves around the boy Bobbin from the weaver clan, who is supposed to save the world from the shadow. The game begins on his 16th birthday, the previous events and an outline of the fantasy world ruled by the Powerful Guilds can be found on the included CD called "30 Minute Audio Drama". (the story is professionally narrated). The game package also includes a Book of Patterns, a book in which the player writes musical melodies/patterns (drafts, randomly generated when the game is started). These are a necessary element of the game - Bobbin uses his stick to draw out the tones from which the draft is created and thus affects his surroundings. For example, after playing the Opening draft, the marked door will open. At first, Bobbin only knows three notes and one draft, others are added gradually. Loom was originally planned as a trilogy. In other works called Forge and The Fold, the characters that Bobbin meets in this work were to become the main heroes. However, the projects were cancelled. Loom is also the first "LucasArts Game Design Philosophy" game, which means that the player cannot die or have to load an old position.
