Game review

Mega Man X is set in a futuristic world, distinct from the original Mega Man series, and introduces a new protagonist, X. As a more advanced version of the original Mega Man, X battles against a group of rogue robots known as Mavericks and their leader, Sigma. The narrative explores themes of free will and morality in a world where robots have advanced to a point of near-human complexity.

The gameplay in Mega Man X builds upon the classic run-and-gun style of the original series but adds several new features and enhancements. X has the ability to dash, climb walls, and utilize a wider array of weapons and abilities obtained from defeated bosses. This not only provided more dynamic combat but also allowed for more intricate level designs with multiple pathways and hidden areas.

Players can choose the order in which they tackle the game’s eight initial stages, each headed by a unique Maverick boss. Defeating a boss grants X a new weapon, with each weapon being particularly effective against another boss. This added a layer of strategy to the game, as players had to determine the most advantageous order to tackle the stages.

Mega Man X was acclaimed for its compelling gameplay, impressive graphics, and the depth of its platforming and combat systems. The game was seen as a successful modernization of the Mega Man formula, appealing to fans of the original series and attracting new players with its more mature themes and updated mechanics.
