R-Type is a classic side-scrolling shooter game originally developed by Irem for the arcade and later adapted for various platforms, including DOS.  In R-Type, players take control of a spacecraft known as the R-9A Arrowhead, embarking on a mission to save humanity from the malevolent Bydo Empire. The game is set across several levels, each filled with a variety of enemies, obstacles, and challenging bosses. The levels are meticulously designed, featuring unique themes and requiring players to adapt their strategies to succeed.

One of the defining features of R-Type is the Force device, a detachable pod that can be attached to the front or rear of the player's spacecraft. The Force pod provides additional firepower and can absorb enemy attacks, offering a strategic element to the gameplay. Players can also charge their primary weapon to unleash a powerful attack, adding another layer of depth to the combat mechanics.
