First, id Software created Wolfenstein 3D, the game that completely changed the gaming world and brought us the first 3D action shooter. Later, they built on the success of Wolf3D and created Doom series, where they introduced horror elements and faster action. In 1996 they managed the impossible. The gates have been opened from which death squads have set out to pillage the world, it is your job to stop it all. So how id Software managed to bring another epic 3D shooter? Why was Quake so different from their predecessors?

These are only two things that game did better, but it was enough. The first is the graphics. Quake is finally in full 3D, meaning you can shoot, move, look in all directions. While in 1996 there were already such games, but Quake excelled graphically in one more important thing: rendering of objects and characters. All objects and characters are no longer just 2D objects, placed in a 3D environment, but they are composed of tiny polygons with realistic shading. The result is really worth it and the graphics were grogeous. The other important thing, why Quake has succeeded is multiplayer. Wild, fast and deadly duels have been played on networks for years and even today (2014), after 18 years (!), you can find servers, where you can try Quake multiplayer. We bring you the shareware version, where the whole first episode is playable.

Quske is an adrenaline shooting game, set in a dark setting reminiscent of the Middle Ages. There is also the opposite contrast in the form of futuristic maps. Each episode has a cleverly chosen set of individual levels, alternating their style of focus and the enemies present. At the beginning, you can choose from four available difficulties, with the last one cleverly hidden. The goal is to gradually go through all the parts, find and collect runes, access the entrance to the final stage and defeat the boss. The fun is complemented by other usual attributes of the genre, including secrets, logical puzzles, statistics and the use of items with special abilities.

In addition to the crazy atmosphere and environment, game has a very good level design, a large number of secret rooms with surprises, "quad damage" (typical indescribable sound again), optimal length and difficulty - the enemies don't give you anything for free, but the game can be completed on the highest level of difficulty quite normally and without pulling out hair, and of course I must not forget the legendary "mouselook", which at that time was not yet commonplace everywhere.

Quake is a game by id Software in a 3D engine straight from their workshop. It is characterized by the presence of unusual weapons that have an original design, such as a nailer, a weapon that shoots lightning and others. In addition to them, there is a shotgun, a rocket launcher and others. Multiplayer includes internet and local network play. The well-known group Nine Inch Nails took care of the sound system.
