Sid Meier's Railroad Tycoon from 1990 is the grandfather of all train strategy games and laid the foundation for all subsequent sequels in the series. In the game, you become the owner of a transport company that wants to take its share of the growing fame and fortune in the railway business. You can do business in several geographical areas - North America, Britain or Europe, and you usually start at the time when steam ruled the world and you explore the history of railway transport up to modern times. Competing companies will understandably make it difficult for you to do business.
The first thing you need to do is to build railroad, and then the train station (preferably a second statio, so it is possible to ride somewhere). Important is the location of the station - try placing them in a strategic city, near individual factories... There are also other forms of investment, for example purchase of shares of your competitor. Rating? It's a quite complicated game and mentally challenging. To tell the truth, I never manage to destroy all challengers, I would have to play for about 50 years... Otherwise, of course, it is a must for lovers of Tycoon series.
In addition to building tracks, bridges, stations and their equipment or trading on the stock exchange, during the game you are introduced to the development of railway events in approximately less than 200 years. You monitor the modernization of building materials, cities and, of course, your vehicle fleet, which you must constantly modernize over time. No locomotive is immortal, and slow malfunctioning steam trains in the era of fast TGVs belong only in museums.
The game was released for PC, Amiga and Atari ST, and its commercial success ensured its immortality in the form of further sequels.

Cannot build tracks in Railroad Tycoon. Have no idea why this happens.
